Autodesk Sketchbook Mobile (get it - android / iphone)
This week I had several options for app of the week as my new phone the google nexus S arrived on Monday so I’ve been pimping it out with pretty much any app I could find to put it through its paces. As I expected it’s a DAMN nice unit and runs like a dream but that’s not the purpose of this post (pipe in subliminal audio – buy android…apple sucks).
After much thought and deliberation I’ve plumped to dedicate this week to an app that has really impressed me, that being, autodesk’s sketchbook mobile. It’s purpose is pretty self explanatory as it’s an app that is used to draw and sketch. Now I’m no artist or painter but I do enjoy a good doodle. I never in a million years would have thought it possible to find a mobile app that actually feels comfortable to properly draw with but this gets really close. The thought that has gone into the user interface alone is impressive and the tools that are available are way more than any mobile painting app I’ve seen before (lets face it most are aimed at toddlers). It includes a great range of features from a huge selection of brushes, airbrushes, pens, colours, brush opacity, multiple layers, blending modes and also the ability to export to .psd (photoshop format). It’s all very well laid out and once you’ve played with it for a while it actually becomes second nature.
