Well, we’ve been encouraging Robyn to write a small journal/diary on our travels so it seemed only fair I did the same. I’m not sacrificing any of my away time doing this as I’m offline and not tempted or distracted by twitter, facebook, client emails etc. Just me and a blank page to fill with the highs and lows of the day while we sit in the comfort of our villa at night. I’ll either wait for a wifi hotspot to upload or possibly tether my phone and briefly turn on the data roaming….worse case scenario I’ll upload these when I get home…..anyway I digress.
Today we have spent most of the day travelling. We left the house at approx 5:30am (after only 4 hours sleep – was very excited) and reached the airport parking by about 7:45am which was pretty good going. Penny (my mother-in-law also travelling with us) was a bit annoyed with the sloppy service there but we were soon on our way to Gatwick North Terminal to get baggage checked in and run through the security mumbo jumbo.
We then shopped and munched on bacon products in the departure lounge before boarding our BA flight to Verona at 12:15pm (GMT). The flight was interesting with both Chloe and Robyn being first time-fliers. Robyn was a real trooper and loved every minute of it. Chloe also survived the experience but the jury is still out on whether it was an enjoyable experience. I was very happy as our seats were right over the wing of the aircraft which gave me chance to take some great snaps with Robyn’s camera. We arrived at Verona airport in the middle of a thunderstorm and the rain was hammering down. The weather wasn’t going to dampen our spirits though as it was still warm and if anything, the rain was quite refreshing. We then went through the procedure of picking up baggage and rental car etc and then set out on the Italian roads towards our base for the week – Pershiera Del Garda. Driving in Italy was surprisingly uneventful which I think we were all quite pleased about. Chloe was also very pleased to find the hire car was a Nissan Note (she’s a big Nissan fan). On arrival in Peschiera, we stumbled our way through some language barriers (I really should have made more of an effort learning) and we picked up the keys for the villa and got settled in. The accommodation is lovely and absolutely perfect for our needs. I shall post some pics at another time….and that’s about all there is to say.
The rest of the evening has been spent stocking the fridge and shelves with gorgeous food products (lots of them) and just generally strolling about (getting wet) and finding our bearings. We are all pretty wiped out and it must be time for bed soon. More to come…I’ll try and make the rest more interesting and have more pictures.
