The Future Seems Bright

Well I’m glad to report I’m finally feeling like I’ve beaten the horrible flu like symptoms which seem to have been dogging me for the last few weeks. This has really improved my mood and my outlook on everything happening around me. Don’t get me wrong I’m still basically a grumpy sod but being grumpy and being able to breathe at the same time is a much more enjoyable experience.

The dreaded SAP project go-live date is fast approaching at work and it looks like I’m going to be a very very busy individual for the next few weeks and months dealing with the huge piles of support issues around roles & authorisations which will come my way when our 9000 users start logging in next week. In some ways I feel much happier about this as we get closer to the go-live date. Putting off the inevitable support nightmares and stressing about them in advance is in many ways much worse than just getting your head down and enduring them, although I reserve the right to retract that statement over the next few weeks.

It’s also been a busy and exciting week on the photography front. Those who’ve stalked me for a while will know that a couple of months ago myself and my best friend Darren launched our own commercial photography venture (Weymouth Photography). To be honest we started with very humble ambitions and were keen to take things slowly and make sure we could fit this part-time venture around our existing work and family commitments. We assumed this would be easy as in a competitive market we would have to work very hard and put in lots of effort over the first few months to get any work at all. What has actually happened is almost the complete reverse of that! Since the website went live we have had repeated enquiries and requests for our services across the whole range of our chosen areas of expertise without us putting in any extra effort at all. In fact (and quite embarrassingly) at the time of writing this blog post we still haven’t had our business cards printed!! (more…)

Todays Vimeo Inspiration

I’ve been ill again this week and completely losing the plot at work as we get closer to the fateful project go-live!  This in combination with juggling family matters and photography work has left me little time to write much down here on the blog (excuses excuses). So to try and make up for it and in substitute of imparting my carefully thought out musings I shall leave you with another cool vimeo flick that caught my eye this week. I love searching the web for inspiration and this one really struck me for a number of reasons. It’s not necessarily my kind of music (although it’s a grower) but the video certainly rocks. I love the use of dark and light and then vibrant colour – especially alongside the animated vintage style drawings and the surreal action elements. Hopefully you get a kick out of it also…

“I Say Fever” – the first video from the Ramona Falls debut album Intuit. Directed by the ridiculously talented Stefan Nadelman, winner of a 2003 Sundance prize for his 22 minute film ‘Terminal Bar’, a prolific animator in the commericial field and the mastermind behind the Menomena Evil Bee video. Instant Gratification (new purchase)

After literally months of searching and longing and frustratingly being outbid and out priced on ebay I finally was successful last night in purchasing a Polaroid Automatic 340 Land Camera. The reason for my obsession with this particular style of polaroid camera is because unlike the newer polaroid cameras which require integral film packs (no longer produced by polaroid) these older camera’s take the peel-apart pack film which is still being produced by fujifilm.

It will probably be a few days until it arrives but I’m very excited. I hope It’s all in good working order. I have quite a thing for instant film and still really love playing with my fuji instax camera (see my results), I’m hoping though that the results from this should be a little more refined. The whole peel-apart film process will be completely new to me so if anyone has any experience then please leave me some tips in the comments?

Short Animation (origami style)

Came across this video today by Joaquin Baldwin and it made me smile. Great animation and something just a little different about it. The short film is called Papiroflexia (Spanish for “Origami”) and is the animated tale of Fred, a skilful paper folder who could shape the world with his hands. How could would that be…

More Than I Change My Socks?

more than I change my socks?

more than I change my socks?

So I’ve got a new website? and yes you could be forgiven for thinking that I change websites more often that I change my socks (mmm socks!) but there is method to my madness. The launch of discodroid.com completes the current cycle of evolution in my web presence and world domination (muhahaha!).

Those who have followed me for a while would remember that until now my personal blog posts always resided over at rojojam.com which also housed my portfolio of web design and photography work. Since launching Weymouth Photography with Darren a couple of months back I took down my photography portfolio over at rojojam so it was clear where and in what capacity I was offering photographic services. It then struck me that the mix between my blog and web design portfolio that was left on rojojam didn’t really gel properly on a single site (as most of my blog posts are about photography or related to general rants and flights of fancy). To fix this I decided to keep rojojam dedicated to my web design portfolio (however limited that may be) and use this opportunity to come up with something completely fresh and funky for a personal blog site….and henceforth discodroid.com was born.

I’m really loving the new look and I am looking forward to writing a little more freely on what is now purely a vehicle for my over inflated and totally sexy ego. Please make sure you subscribe to the feed and leave some comments telling me what you think.

If your a new visitor and want to find out more about me then check out my new home page (which is awe.some x 10).
